How competitive Counter-Strike 2 works in 2026

Counter-Strike has no franchised league. Valve approves two Majors a year, each run by a different organizer, and independent organizers such as ESL (IEM and ESL Pro League), BLAST and PGL fill the rest of the calendar with their own tournaments. What ties it together is Valve's ranking system, the Valve Regional Standings (VRS). VRS decides who gets invited to the Majors and to many of the biggest events.

The Majors are now fully invite-based. All 32 teams at IEM Cologne in June were invited from VRS, with no regional qualifiers, and each region's number of spots was based on how its teams did at the previous Major. The event has three 16-team Swiss stages. Each stage sends eight teams on, and the last eight play single-elimination playoffs. Higher-ranked teams skip the early stages. For the PGL Major Singapore, Europe gets 18 of the 32 invitations (one more than at Cologne) and the Americas drop to seven. Seeding is locked from the VRS on November 2, and Singapore will be the first Major to include a third-place match.

ESL Pro League Season 24 also changed: it dropped its 24-team online format and now runs fully on LAN with 16 teams, 12 invited from VRS and four from the regional ESL Challenger League.

The biggest CS2 events of 2026

• IEM Cologne Major (June 2-21, Germany): Stage 3 was at the Palladium and the playoffs at LANXESS Arena. Team Falcons beat FURIA 3-0 for their first Major title.
• ESL Pro League Season 24 (October 3-11, Katowice, Poland): Swiss group stage from October 3 to 7, then an eight-team playoff from October 9 to 11. The final is best-of-five.
• PGL Major Singapore (November 24 to December 13): Stage 1 starts November 24, and the main event runs December 2-13 with a $1.25 million prize pool.

Valve has already scheduled the 2027 Majors: Buenos Aires (May 31 to June 20, run by FiReSPORTS) and Shanghai (November 22 to December 12, run by Perfect World).

Where to watch CS2 tournaments

Watching is free, but there's no single official channel. Each organizer streams its own events on its own Twitch and YouTube channels. ESL events air on twitch.tv/eslcs and ESL's YouTube, BLAST events on BLAST.tv and BLAST's channels, and PGL events on PGL's channels. Many popular creators co-stream the official feed with their own commentary, and big events usually have broadcasts in several languages. Full maps and series go up on the organizers' YouTube channels afterward.

The one paid extra is the Major Viewer Pass, sold inside CS2. At Cologne it cost $9.99, or $18 with 900 tokens. It unlocks the Pick'Em challenge and earns tokens for team stickers and souvenir items. Cologne also added the Souvenir-O-Matic, which uses tokens to turn a weapon skin you already own into a souvenir from a specific match and player.

What time CS2 matches are on in Eastern Time

Most top CS2 events are in Europe. Central Europe is six hours ahead of ET, except from October 25 to November 1, when Europe has already changed its clocks and the gap is five hours. The ESL Pro League Season 24 final starts at 17:00 in Katowice, which is 11 AM ET. Early group-stage days with several matches can start in the early morning ET. Singapore will be 13 hours ahead of ET during the Major, so evening sessions there air in the early morning ET and afternoon sessions overnight.

Tips for following CS2

Since VRS decides who plays where, keep an eye on the November 2 cutoff for the Singapore Major: a strong autumn run can move a team into a later Swiss stage. If you buy a Viewer Pass, make your Pick'Em picks before each stage locks, because the predictions are per stage. Multi-match days often run late, so treat listed times as estimates.
